The right therapist?

The decision

The decision to see a psychologist quite often comes at moments of crisis. It is not only a difficult decision to make, but it can be hard to know who is the right therapist for you.

This online guide provides a clear overview of factors to consider and may help as you begin this important process.

Language & Culture

Linguistic and cultural nuance is significant in the therapeutic relationship. If English is not your first language and there is no other compelling reason to see an English-speaking psychologist (e.g., bicultural relationships, expat life experience, no native-speaking therapists of your first language), I strongly recommend that you find an experienced therapist who speaks your language.

Your protection

There are excellent therapists who are regulated by organisations other than ADELI and French law. However, it is important to clarify your rights and protections before beginning any therapeutic relationship.
